Helen McCarthy is one of the west's most distinguished manga experts. Stealing Tezuka

Amazon had this book on sale for $2.66! An amazing steal! A friend told me about the sale and while I have never been into Manga and don't really know much at all about Osamu Tezuka, I figured for two dollars and sixty six cents, I could afford to learn. It's a lovely book with a heavy duty clear plastic protective cover. The book's contents are also interesting. Focusing on Tezuka's childhood and then moving on to his early work with things like Kimba and then to his more contemporary work with plenty of art and photos befitting a coffe table art book of this sort. I was surprised to find that the book comes with a DVD documentary on Tezuka. It's a fascinating look at his artistic process, how he holds up in a small apartment tenemant in a room with an old record player(on which he plays different records depending on what style of manga he's drawing) and a small television set. No one is allowed to come into his workspace but he allowed remote cameras to be set up to watch him in action. Even though I'm only two thirds of the way finished with the book, I have to say that I am really enjoying it. I can't say I would have been motivated to buy this book had it not been on sale at such a crazy low price. Not knowing anything about Tezuka, I also can't speak to whether or not the author gets is right although it seems like a well written and researched book. However, I can say that this is a quality book and definitely worth the regular asking price of 20 to 30 dollars.

Great book of an artist's life's work

My boyfriend is a huge fan of Osamu Tezuka's Buddha comics series, so I wanted to get him a cool coffee table book that features that comic as well as Astroboy, which he is also a fan of. The book is very comprehensive, detailing Osamu's childhood, his primary sketches, and all the details about the influences on creating his comics. There is also a dvd that accompanies the book. I don't know much about manga, but after flipping through the book, and seeing all the detail, it makes me more appreciative of the art of creating comics. The artist is very skilled and the book is well put together for anyone who is a fan of manga and Tezuka's work.

A good book, but more translation would have been appreciated

I bought this book after seeing the excellent Astro Boy movie, and I have to say that it's worth every dollar. It's exhaustively researched and richly illustrated, and gives a reader curious about the life and work of Japan's "God of Manga", Osamu Tezuka, plenty to chew on. My only caveat is that the comics included in the book are often untranslated, even the ones pertaining to Astro Boy, and that was bit disappointing. But that's a small quibble; overall I really enjoyed this book.

Informative and useful

This text is tough to beat as a resource with which to build a foundation for critical thought. The author clearly presents each topic of focus while emphasizing key points and utilizing examples to ensure the information finds a home in the reader's mind. The format and style of this work contribute to its readability and make it ideal as a reference once the first pass has been made. One's only imaginable complaint might be that the text is unnecessarily lengthy with regard to some explanations. Then again, these instances might not be seen in this light when a concept has to be revisited as a refresher or further clarification outside of the initial reading. As far as basic logic/argumentation texts are concerned, this is amongst the best that are currently available.

Very practicable information

I found this book to be very logical, well laid out, and interesting. I had no problem reading through this book. In fact it was a breeze reading and I am now interested in reading more of the author's books on logic and argumentation. I would like to add that this is the first book on logic I have read. Additionally I found the information in the book to be very practicable/easy to put into use. I find myself unconsciously using techniques, from this book, for critical evaluation to criticize and evaluate the arguments used by others, and using the techniques for promoting open dialogue at work and in my other day to day interactions.

I think this book would be great to read in high school, though I am not implying it is "high school level" material. I highly recommend this book to anyone.

Interesting book, but worth reading. You will become an expert on classifying arguments and making valid cases. Simply learning all the logistics of arguments. I bought this book because it was assigned for my Philosophy 102 course, but I did take an interest in it.

Secret Regrets is a great read that can be relevant to anyone! The book is compiled of regrets by real people who posted on the online blog. Also in the book, are the comments left by others giving support and love to those in pain. The book is intense- it is real. The comments of encouragement are uplifting and give hope. Even if you don't believe you live your life with regret, you will find yourself in many of these passages. I recommend to anyone, of all ages, all walks of life.

Have you ever come across a book that is intense and moving enough it becomes too hard to read more than a few pages at a time? This was that book for me. Many of the stories were very moving. Hansen's forum allows us to take a multi-generational journey into the secret regrets of the lives of others who could literally be your next door neighbor, your co-worker, your relative, or even your best friend. I believe reading the regrets compiled in this book, combined with the support of those who have responded to them, are the right ingredients for readers to consider being more bold and courageous in their own lives, and to think about experiencing life with less regret.

This book an awesome book to read!! It gives you the opportunity to peer into the lives and regrets of REAL people! Some of these stories are sad, happy, heart breaking and in most cases very heart warming! I highly recommend it. It truly does help you to appreciate your own life and help you realize that your own regrets may not actually be that bad in comparison! You really do end up feeling for some of these people and even in some cases will understand and feel their regrets just as much as they do!

Well put together Kevin Hansen and surely can't wait for Volume 2!
